Senator Douglas McClelland (NEW SOUTH WALES) asked the Minister representing the PostmasterGeneral, upon notice:

(1)   Does the Postmaster-General's Department own land in Bridge Street, West Tamworth, which is leased or rented to a motor car sales company; if so, how long has the Department owned the land, to whom is it leased, and what arc the terms of the lease.

(2)   Does the Department conduct the business of the West Tamworth Post Office in leased premises in the same street; if so, how long has the Department been the lessee, who is the lessor, and what are the terms of the lease.

(3)   By how much has the business of the Post Office at West Tamworth increased since the original lease was taken out for the premises at 170- 174 Bridge Street, West Tamworth.

Senator GREENWOOD - The PostmasterGeneral has provided the following answers to the honourable senator's questions:

(1)   Yes. Since 12th May 1949. Clifton Pty Ltd. Weekly tenancy at rental of $28.00 per week.

(2)   Yes. Since 1st February 1946. The Estate of the Late Verdun Edward Lowe. For 3 years expiring on 30th September 1972, at rental of $936.00 per annum.

(3)   The increase in business over the 25-year period has not been sufficient to justify elevating the office above Grade 2 status which was allotted to it in 1945-46, although it has been reviewed each 3 years since then.
