Senator O'Byrne asked the Minister representing the Prime Minister, upon notice -

1.   Is it a fact that the Federal Government has protested directly to the United States Administration on the possible effect of State legislation in the United States discriminating against the sale of imported meat?

2.   Will the Prime Minister issue an authoritative statement on this subject, which is of vital concern to Australia?
