Senator McKELLAR - The Minister for Immigration has supplied the following information in answer to the honorable senator's questions -

1.   It is estimated that about 535,000 citizens of the United Kingdom and colonies are residentially qualified but have not applied for Australian citizenship. It is believed that the principal reason for this is that British subjects in Australia experience no practical difficulties as compared with Australian citizens, other than that they are not entitled to an Australian passport.

2.   Between 26th January, 1949, and 31st December 1964, 12,545 citizens of the United Kingdom and colonics were granted certificates of registration as Australian citizens.

3.   Four hundred and forty-one applications for registration by citizens of the United Kingdom and colonies are pending.
