Senator GORTON (VICTORIA) (Minister for Works) - The Government, through its representatives in the United Nations and on other occasions, has over and over again expressed its opposition to the testing of new nuclear devices by any country, has expressed its desire that all countries should join the nuclear test ban treaty, to which Australia was one of the earliest signatories, and on every occasion, both public and private, has expressed this view as the view of the Australian Government to governments concerned or through the United Nations. It appears that little more could be done with any effectiveness in that direction than is already being done.
