Senator PALTRIDGE (WESTERN AUSTRALIA) (Minister for Defence) - I am not aware of the particular problem to which the honorable senator has referred, although I understand that the requirements for shipping space for moving potatoes from Tasmania -to Sydney recently created some problems for shipowners, but that arrangements were then made by the Australian National Line to provide space for about 60 containers of potatoes a week from the north west coast of Tasmania. These arrangements will, I believe, satisfy the requirements of potato merchants until the end of the season in October. The provision of containers for potatoes is the responsibility of the shippers. The Tasmanian Government Railways are practically the sole shippers and provide all the containers. There is a tendency for the containers to bank up in Sydney and Melbourne.
