Senator HENTY - The Acting Treasurer has supplied the following answers -

1.   The establishment of a National Disaster Fund has been considered on a number of occasions in recent years, and the matter has been raised at Premiers' Conferences, but an acceptable basis for such a fund has not been found.

2.   When the Premier of a State requests financial assistance from the Commonwealth on a £1 for £1 basis for the purpose of affording relief lo persons in distressed or necessitous circumstances following a natural disaster, the request is dealt with promptly, and no delays ensue in the remittance of funds to the State concerned in accordance with the approved arrangements.
