Senator FITZGERALD asked the

Minister representing the Minister for National Development, upon notice -

1.   Are engineers and specialists working on the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme con? cerned as to their future employment?

2.   Is it a fact that this great project is planned to be completed in 8 to 10 years and that the work of the investigating staff, the planners and many geologists will be completed within the next 2 years?

3.   Will the Minister consider setting up immediately a Council for National Development or a body similar to the United States Bureau of Reclamation which carries out most of the hydroelectric schemes, dams and irrigation works of that great nation, so that Australia may be assured of future progress and development?

4.   Does the Minister consider that having built up such a magnificent organisation of some 6,000 employees with considerable " know-how " it would be a great tragedy to Australia for it to disintegrate through lack of future planning?
