Senator GORTON - The Minister for External Affairs has furnished the following replies -

1.   No.

2.   The question of making representations to theGovernment of the Federal Republic of Germany does not arise at the moment. On 24th February 1965 the Government of the Federal Republic announced that it would support the Bundestag (the Lower House of Parliament) in its efforts to provide a means for justice to be done while preserving constitutional principles.

3.   On 10th March the Bundestag (Lower House) of the Federal German Parliament commenced its consideration of the problems raised by the application of the Statute of Limitations to war crimes. On 25th March the Bundestag adopted by a large majority a bill which in effect extends until 31st December 1969 the time limit during which the prosecutions of Nazi crimes might be initiated. It is expected that the bill will be considered by the Bundesrat (Upper House) early in April.
