Senator COHEN asked the Minister representing the Minister for External Affaire, upon notice -

1.   In view of the fact that Australia has ratified the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, has the Government made any representations to the Federal Republic of Germany urging an extension, in the case of Nazis accused of war crimes and genocide, of the present 20 year Statute of Limitations for criminal offences?

2.   If not, will the Government make urgent representations to the Bonn Government with a view to ensuring that persons accused of such crimes should not escape trial by a legal technicality?

3.   Has the Government any information as to the progress of this matter before the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany?
