Senator FITZGERALD (NEW SOUTH WALES) - My question is directed to the Minister representing the Treasurer. Is the Minister aware that large stockbroking organisations, including A. C. Goode and Company of the Melbourne Stock Exchange, have warned buyers this month in a private and confidential circular to expect a tougher Budget next August? In view of the balance of payments deficit, an increase of over £200 million in defence expenditure in this coming year, the recent problems of American trade, drought conditions throughout the country and the recent failure of the Commonwealth loan, I ask the Minister whether he is prepared to give any advice to the Australian people so that they may know the problems facing the Government, and what to expect in the months ahead.
