Senator DRAKE-BROCKMAN (Western Australia) - Mr. President, I should like to thank the Senate for the honour that it has conferred upon me in electing me to the position of Chairman of Committees. I am deeply conscious of the high standard that has been set by the many honorable senators who have held this position in the past. 1 believe that with the co-operation, and perhaps the forbearance, of honorable senators, particularly in my early days in the chair, I shall be able to maintain that high standard. It shall be my aim at all times to ensure that the dignity of the Senate is upheld and that all honorable senators, on whichever side of the chamber they sit, shall receive fair and just consideration. Knowing my frailty, may I just say that it shall also be my aim at all times to see that the duties and responsibilities of this office are carried out to the best of my ability.
