Senator MCCLELLAND - I direct a question to the Leader of the Government in the Senate. Am I to understand that the Vernon Committee of Economic Inquiry will not be presenting its report to the Government before the end of this sessional period? Bearing in mind previous statements that the report was expected towards the end of October, has the Government any inquiries as to when the report will become available? Are the latest defence proposals outlined by the Prime Minister likely to have any effect on the economy and therefore an effect on the deliberations and the report of the Committee? Is the report likely to be further delayed as a result of these defence proposals?
