Senator HENDRICKSON (VICTORIA) - I direct a question to the Acting Minister for External Affairs. Is the Minister able to give any additional particulars relating to the reported construction of a new Australian embassy building in Washington? Is the building to be used for the residence of the Ambassador or is it to be used for administrative purposes? Are similar buildings in contemplation in respect of Australian missions in other parts of the world? If so, what are the details? Will Australian building materials be used almost exclusively in all of the contemplated buildings? Will Australian architects be engaged exclusively? If so, who will select the architects? In regard to the Washington project, how many architects were considered in addition to the successful firm? What special qualifications did the successful firm possess?
