Senator GORTON - The Minister for

Territories has supplied the following answers -

1.   Yes.

2.   The Government has stated its agreement with the Commission's view that the provision of adequate facilities for technical training is one of the most urgent educational needs of the Territory. It has also stated that the recommendations for a fully autonomous university are far reaching and must be considered within the context of overall Territory development.

3.   Consideration is being given to the most effective way of implementing the decision to proceed with the provision of adequate facilities for technical training in the Territory.

4.   The Government has not made a decision to accept the timetable for the establishment of the Institute and the University as proposed by the Commission, but is at present considering this matter together with the other proposals of the Committee.
