Senator ANDERSON - The Minister for Primary Industry has supplied the following reply -

1   . I have seen the statement by Mr. C. Ito, leader of the Delegation representing Japanese end-users of dried vine fruits, as reported in the "Adelaide Advertiser " of 29th September, 1964, wherein he made certain suggestions regarding export sales of dried vine fruits to Japan. The visit of this delegation from Japan was arranged and financed by the Australian Dried Fruits Control Board to enable representatives of Japanese end-users and the Japanese trade press to discuss the marketing of Australian dried vine fruits in Japan with members of the Board, producers and packers. During its two week's stay, the delegation visited the major dried vine fruit industry areas in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia.

2.   Yes. At a meeting with members of the Board in Renmark on 27th September, the visitors suggested that an industry representative be stationed in Japan to carry out public relations with users, to report on packing, &c, and on consumer acceptance.

3.   Since the Board arranged the visit for the express purpose of increasing our dried vine fruit exports to Japan and since this can only be achieved by producing a commodity which the Japanese will buy, I am sure that the Board will, give very serious consideration to all the suggestions which were made by the delegation. My Department stands prepared to assist the Board' and the industry in achieving its objective.
