Senator ANDERSON - I shall make investigations on this issue on behalf of the honorable senator. My understanding is that members of a striking union are not entitled to the unemployment benefit. I add that this decision was taken in 1948 by a Labour government. Men who are laid off because of a strike in which their union is not participating may be considered for unemployment benefit, each application being treated according to the facts of the case. I shall have the question directed to the Minister for Social Services for any clarification that might be necessary.
