Senator BUTTFIELD (SOUTH AUSTRALIA) asked the Minister representing the Minister for Social Services, upon notice -

1.   How many organisations have applied for the Government's matching grant for the purpose of building hostels for handicapped people to be operated in conjunction with sheltered workshops?

2.   How much has been paid out by the Commonwealth for this purpose?

3.   As it appears that money for the extension of work facilities in these workshops is even more urgently needed than hostel accommodation, will the Minister have an investigation made into the number of organisations which might be willing to increase workshop opportunities if the grant could be extended for this purpose?
