Senator LAUGHT (SOUTH AUSTRALIA) asked the Minister representing the Minister for Supply, upon notice -

1.   Was the American weather satellite Nimbus I the orbiting camera platform for the amazing radio photograph of south-eastern Australia which was recently taken from an altitude of about 550 miles above Mount Gambier in South Australia?

2.   Could the Minister cause an evaluation of this exciting photographic phenomenon to be made, and inform the Senate, first, of its aid in the forecasting of Australian weather, and secondly, its service in other fields of scientific research?

3.   What nation or nations bear the cost of the Nimbus 1 and of the ground tracking stations servicing it in Australia?
