Senator WADE - I want to make two points. The first one I make - and I make it specifically - is that medical benefit funds and hospital benefit funds do not make profits. They are non-profit making organisations. They have reserves that they are obliged to maintain and so long as they are not excessive I do not think anyone can quarrel with them. The second point I make is this: At this point of time no proposals have been put before me or my Department for increased medical benefits. Having said that, I go further and repeat what I said yesterday: It is expected that a meeting will be held of the advisory council which makes recommendations to the Government in this field within a few days' time. As I said yesterday, any proposals for increased contributions will be examined thoroughly and will be completely justified before they are approved by the Government.
