Senator UPPILL asked the Minister representing the Minister for Commerce, upon notice -

1.   Is it a fact -

(a)   that 51 large dairy farms have closed down in the Casino district of New South Wales in the past twelve months as a result of the manpower shortage;

(b)   that a recent government survey showed that 2,000 dairy farms are idle in New South Wales;

(c)   that many farms have closed down in New South Wales because of more attractive salary baits that have been held out in other avenues connected with the war effort?

2.   If the answer to any of these questions is in the affirmative, what action will the Government take to remedy this serious state of affairs?
