Senator AYLETT asked the Minister representing the Minister for Supply and Development, upon notice -

1   . What are the reasons for the difference of £3 a ton paid by the Supply Department, Melbourne, and the Supply Department, Hobart, for carrots purchased at Smithton and Stanley in Tasmania?

2.   Is it a fact that the Supply Department in Melbourne is paying £12 10s. a ton for carrots at the Stanley wharf?

3.   Is it a fact that the Supply Department, Hobart, purchasing carrots for processing purposes (processed by Jones and Company, Hobart), is offering only £9 a ton for carrots at Stanley or Smithton Station ?

4.   Is it not a fact that if the same price were paid by the Supply Department, Melbourne, carrots could be processed in Tasmania instead of being shipped to Melbourne for that purpose?
