Senator COOPER (QUEENSLAND) asked the Minister representing the Minister for Home Security, upon notice -

1.   Has the Minister seen the report appearing in the Canberra Times of the 28th May, 1942, to the effect that no internal air raid shelter has been provided in Parliament House or the Commonwealth offices in Canberra, excepting a small first-aid post near Parliament House?

2.   If this is so, will the Minister consider the strengthening of portions of this building, so as to provide some shelter for the 300 to 400 persons in Parliament House during parliamentary sessions?

3.   Is it a fact that there are slit trenches, the exact location of which many persons in this building do not know?

4.   Does the Minister consider, should Canberra be raided at night, especially in wet weather or in winter time, that the hundreds of persons in Parliament House and the Commonwealth offices should be expected to go to these slit trenches?
