Senator FRASER - On the 13th May


Senator Aylett asked the following questions, upon notice -

1.   Has fresh fruit, particularly apples, been cut out of Army rations since the Canteen Board took over?

2.   If not, how many cases of apples per day were used by the Army prior to the Canteen Board taking over supplies?

3.   How many cases of apples per day are being used for the Army since the Canteen Board took over supplies?

The Minister for the Army has now furnished the following replies: -

1.   Although fresh fruit does not form part of the daily ration it may be issued as an equivalent for fresh vegetables when not available. 2 and 3. The information requested is not readily available. It is advised by the Canteens Central Control Board that the demand for apples is increasing daily and that all demands are satisfied.
