Senator COLLETT (WESTERN AUSTRALIA) asked the Minister representing the Minister for Commerce, upon notice -

1.   Is it a fact that the Government proposes to take over the control of the bulk handling of wheat throughout Australia?

2.   If so, for what reasons is this being done?

3.   Is it a fact that in Western Australia the bulk handling system is an economic cooperative concern, partly covered by State legislation, and owned by the growers; also, that if the proposed alteration in control is effected it will result, amongst other things, in an increase in handling charges as well as the loss to the grower of ld. per bushel?

4.   In view of Western Australia's peculiar geographical position, and the fact that no matter of man-power is involved, should it not, under the circumstances outlined in (3) above, be exempted from any scheme of federal control of the bulk handling of wheat?

SenatorFRASER.- The Minister for Commerce has supplied the following answers : -
