Senator McLEAY (South AustraliaLeader of the Opposition) . - 1 protest against the Senate adjourning till next week when members of the Opposition are most anxious to discuss the motion for the printing of the Ministerial statement on the progress of the war. Furthermore, notices of motions were given to-day for the disallowance of two very important statutory rules. The Senate has not been meeting frequently, and in these days when statutory rules are pouring out in large numbers it is only fitting that the Senate should have an opportunity to discuss them promptly. Honorable senators who have come from distant States will be compelled to remain at Canberra to-morrow, but will not have a chance to proceed with the discussion of matters which are occupying their attention. I protest emphatically against this procedure.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
