Senator AYLETT asked the Minister representing 'the Minister for the Army, upon notice -

1.   Is it the practice for military area officers to call up men in their fifth year of apprenticeship as carpenters and joiners, and place them in the Light Horse instead of in their trade?

2.   In view of the grave shortage of carpenters for building munitions and arms factories and also in their trade in the Army, does he consider the best use is being made by putting boya in the fifth year of their apprenticeship into the Light Horse?

3.   What action is necessary to have boys of this nature placed in their trade in the Army, so that they may complete their apprenticeship ?
