Senator J B HAYES (TASMANIA) asked the Minister assisting the Minister for Commerce, upon notice -

1.   Is it true, as reported in the press of the 29th April, that 8,000 bags of New Zealand blue peas have been landed in Sydney and are selling at £1 8s. 6d. per bushel?

2.   If so, is it possible for the Government to arrange for Tasmanian farmers to get the benefit of this market?

3.   When are growers to be paid for the peas acquired by the Government?

4.   Is it proposed to withhold 3a. per bushel of the price to be paid?

5.   If so, what is the reason for this deduction ?
