Senator COURTICE (Queensland) (12:12 PM) . - I wish to impress upon the Government the advisability of holding a secret meeting of the Senate todiscuss matters associated with the defence of Australia, and particularly of Queensland. At such a meeting I would be able to say many things which I would, not like to say in open session. We al! realize that the present position is veryserious. All along the coastal districts of Australia there are men, many of them: past military age, but good rifle shots, and keen to serve, who are prepared togive their lives if necessary in the defenceof Australia. However, they need equipment, and this is one of the matters which could be profitably discussed at a secret, meeting. Such meetings have been held before in the other chamber with membersof the House of Representatives present, but they have not been altogether a success. I do not want a long meeting,, but merely an opportunity for honorablesenators to bring before the Government matters which they think should be brought to the attention of the Minister.
