Senator Arnold - I desire to make a personal explanation in regard to my failure to vote in the division on Senator Spicer's amendment to clause 7 of the Income Tax Assessment Bill. I understood that an arrangement had been made for me to be paired with Senator Johnston, who is absent on account of ill health. I have since ascertained that through a misunderstanding the Leader of the Opposition (Senator McLeay), who had arranged a pair with the Leader of the Senate (Senator Collings), voted in the division on the assumption that a subsequent arrangement had been made by the whips that Senator Johnston and the Leader of the Senate would be paired. I desire to have it recorded in Hansard that I would have voted, against the amendment but foi the misunderstanding that occurred.
