Senator COOPER (Queensland) . - Clause 18 requires employers to make to the Commissioner of Taxation within seven days after the close of each month a return of all wages paid or payable by them in respect of that month. Representations have 'been made to me from various sources that the obligation to make monthly returns will impose a burden on industry and will increase the rising cost of carrying on industry. The simplification of returns that employers are required to make to government departments is necessary and it is suggested that in the case of the pay-roll tax returns should be made quarterly or half yearly. I suggest that the Government should give favorable consideration to my proposal.
