Senator Sir GEORGE PEARCE (Western Australia) (Minister for External Affairs) [8.0]. - The growth of public interest in the work of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research is strikingly demonstrated by the increasing measure of financial support accorded to the council by interests other than governments. The outside contributions for each of the last five years have been as follows : -


The figure of £68,381 for 1936-37 represents 35 per cent, of the total expenditure of the council. The contributions for 1936-37 will include the following:-
