Senator BROWN asked the Minister representing the Treasurer, upon notice -

1.   Has the Government received any application by the Surf Life Saving Association for assistance by way of subsidy?

2.   Has the Government at any time subsidized this association?

3.   If not, will the Government favorably consider any application for subsidy?


Senator Sir GEORGE PEARCE - The Treasurer has supplied the following answers : -

1.   An application was received from this association last year, for a. grant towards the cost ofa proposed world tour in 1936 of 24 Australian surf life savers. This application was not approved.

2.   No.

3.   It is regretted that the Government is unable to agree to a subsidy to this association or to associations of a similar nature.
