Senator COLLINGS (QUEENSLAND) asked the Minister representing the Minister for the I nterior, upon notice -

1.   Have any negotiations been opened with any person or companyregarding, the development of theBarkly Tableland to the Gulf of Carpentaria?

2.   Will the terms of any agreement made or contemplated he submitted to Parliament for ratification, rejection or amendment before such agreement is signed on behalf of the Commonwealth ?

Senator Sir GEORGEPEARCE.The Minister for the Interior has supplied the following answers to the honorable senator's questions : -

1.   Proposals For the development of the Barkly Tableland were put before the Government some considerable time ago by a number of lessees on the tablelands. The proposals were considered but the Government was unable to accept them on the basis put forward.

2.   Parliament will he informed and given an opportunity for discussion in the event of any agreement being entered into.
