Senator ARKINS (New South Wales) .- I shall be glad if the PostmasterGeneral will give to the committee some information with respect to the amount of £1,800 for the erection of a cottage for the taxation officer at Darwin. The amount seems to be exceedingly large for a building of that type, unless it is intended also to be used as an administrative building.

Senator A J McLACHLAN (SOUTH AUSTRALIA) - I am informed that the whole of the material has to be transported from Brisbane or one of the southern capitals, and also that other building costs in Darwin are exceedingly high.

Proposed vote agreed to.

Department of the Interior.
