Senator PAYNE (TASMANIA) asked the Minister in charge of development, upon notice -

1.   Have investigations been made as to the possibility of American hickory trees being commercially grown in Australia to provide timber necessary for a supply of the best grade axe and other tool handles; ifso, with what result?

2.   If not, will the Government consider the advisability of such an investigation being made at an early date?
