Senator BROWN asked the Minister representing the Minister for Defence, upon notice -

1.   What is the latest British fighting aeroplane's capacity in length of flight without refuelling, its speed, and bomb-carrying power?

2.   What is the capacity of the Australian first class machines?

Senator Sir GEORGE PEARCE - The following information has been furnished by the Minister for Defence:-

1.   The latest two-seater fighting aircraft in service in the Royal Air Force has a range of 446 miles without refuelling, at a cruising speed of158 miles an hour, and with a bomb load of 500 lb. It is known, however, that aircraft with greatly increased performances are in process of development for the Royal Air Force, and will shortly be introduced into that service.

2.   The performance and capacity of the type of aircraft in use in the Royal Australian Air Force is the same as set out in 1.
