By omitting the whole item and inserting in its stead the following item: -

(1)   In the manufacture of which all the tobacco leaf used is Australian grown, per lb. 3s.10d.

Senator Foll - Senator Hardy has circulated a request on this item, but his unfortunate accident this morning precludes him from being present to move it. Would it be in order for another honorable senator to submit it on his behalf?

Senator Collings - While I agree to any proposal which will enable Senator Hardy's request to be moved I also have a request which will take precedence over his, because it proposes a greater reduction of the rate of duty.

Senator A J McLACHLAN (SOUTH AUSTRALIA) - I suggest that the Temporary Chairman leave the Chair until 8 o'clock.

Sitting suspended from 5.50 to 8 p.m.
