Senator LECKIE (Victoria) .- I did not mean to convey the impression that wheat-farmers do not. use slashers, because some of them may possess quite a number ; but on the large wheat-growing areas in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia slashers are not used extensively, because the land has been cleared for many years. This industry, which was established on the duties imposed in 1929, has been in existence for only five years, and as it is producing a fair per centage of Australia's requirements it should be afforded adequate protection. The slashers made in Australia are of good quality, and since they have been manufactured locally the price of the imported article has been reduced by 33 per cent, to 50 per cent.
