Senator J V MACDONALD (QUEENSLAND) - In view of the controversy which is taking place on the subject of a 40-hour working week, will the Leader of the Senate instruct the department concerned to furnish the Senate with information as to the hours worked by employees in the various departments of the Common wealth ?

Senator Sir GEORGE PEARCE - I could not, offhand, promise to do that. I advise the honorable senator to submit a motion for the preparation of a return giving the informationwhich he seeks.
