Senator Sir GEORGE PEARCE (Western Australia) (Minister for External Affairs) [3.58] . - in reply - Whatever the Government may intend to do in this regard, obviously it cannot publish its intentions; if it did so, they would quickly be defeated by a sudden acceleration of importation. I shall bring the honorable member's request under the notice of the Government.

With regard to the trade balance with the United States of America, I remind the honorable senator that a subcommittee of the Cabinet is already inquiring into this matter.
