Senator BROWN (Queensland) . - Will the Postmaster-General (Senator A. J. McLachlan) explain whether it is a fact that many linesmen and mechanics have lately been dismissed from the Service? I understand that in Victoria alone several hundred men have lost their positions. Will the same action be taken in other States? For many years, efforts have been, made ' to prevail upon the various PostmastersGeneral to improve the South Brisbane Post Office, which is a disgrace to the department. I believe that £3,500 was expended by the department on the purchase of a site in a central position near the terminus of the Kyogle and suburban railways nea)- Brisbane. Is it the intention of the Government to proceed with this necessary work?
