Senator ALLAN MACDONALD (WESTERN AUSTRALIA) . - In connexion with the powers of the Federal Censor ship Board I direct the attention of the Minister to the fact that invariably when a film exhibitor or a picture theatre owner is asked why so many inferior pictures are screened he is informed that he can obtain good pictures only by undertaking to screen what many of us consider undesirable films. I do not know what are the full powers of the Censorship Board in this respect; but if the board has not the authority to prohibit the projection of inferior films it should have the power to do so. The films to which I refer may not be immoral but can be termed only as mere " bunk ". It is an insult to a large number of Australian picture patrons to be compelled not only to view them but also to hear the language used.
