Senator COLLINGS - Then why all these tears?

Senator PAYNE - I made that statement in the hope that the Leader of the Opposition and his colleagues may repent. This matter is far too important to be made a party question. From my knowledge of the Australian people I .am confident that they will support the Government. In conclusion, I sincerely hope that the enforcement of sanctions by the nations which have agreed to them will bring about the speedy termination of hostilities in Abyssinia. If that eventuates, I predict that the League of Nations will become the force in the world that we hoped it would be when it was inaugurated, to preserve world peace for all time.
