Senator GUTHRIE(through Senator

Elliott) asked the Minister for Defence, upon notice -

1.   What is the number of motor cars and/or trucks owned by the department

2.   What is the number of cars and/or trucks, in whole or part, of other than British manufacture ?

Senator Sir WILLIAM GLASGOW - The answers are - .

1.   The number of motor cars and motor trucks owned by department - 192.

2.   Number of motor cars and trucks in whole or in part of other than British manufacture - 31. A number of the motor cars and trucks of other than British manufacture are Fords, which have been on charge to the department since the war. Several of these are out of running order, and will shortly be disposed of. I may add that it is the policy of the Defence Department to purchase only vehicles of British manufacture.
