Senator NEEDHAM (Western Australia) . - The statement made by the Leader of the Senate is welcomed by every honorable senator and by the people of Australia as a whole. I take this opportunity of saying that we should recognize the efforts of the Federal industrial Disputes Committee, headed by Mr. Charles Crofts, and the Melbourne Trades Hall Council, headed by Mr. E. J. Holloway. Those bodies have worked incessantly to bring about industrial peace, and it is mainly due to their efforts that hostilities on the waterfront have ceased. Days before the Government moved in this Parliament in a certain direction these bodies were at work in an effort to bring about a settlement of the dispute..

Senator Sir George Pearce - The honorable senator would do well not to continue along those lines.

Senator NEEDHAM - With other honorable senators, I rejoice that there is peace on the waterfront.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
