Senator J B HAYES (TASMANIA) asked the Minister representing the Prime Minister, upon notice - 1.Has the Minister seen a press report , to the effect that a joint committee of both Houses of the New Zealand Parliament has recommended that negotiations be entered into with the Commonwealth Government with a view to the establishment of a shipping service between the southern ports - of New Zealand and Australia?

2.   If these negotiations arc entered into, will he insist that Hobart shall be a port of call?

Senator Sir GEORGEPEARCE.The right honorable the Prime Minister has furnished the following replies : -

1.   No.

2.   Any representation made by the New Zealand Government will, of course, be given consideration.
