Clause 13 -

Suction one hundred and eleven of the Principal Act is amended -

(a)   by omitting from paragraph (b) the word "eight" (second occuring) and inserting in its stead the word " seven ";

(b)   by omitting from paragraph (c) the " eight " and inserting in its stead the word "seven": and

(c)   by adding at the end of the section the following proviso: - " Provided that, where the scrutiny is proceeded with immediately after the close' of the poll at the polling booth at which the votes are taken, it shall notbe necessary for the presiding officer to publicly close, fasten, or seal the ballot-box as required by paragraph (d) of this section.".


Senator Sir WILLIAM GLASGOW - I move -

That paragraphs (a) and (b) be left out.

The effect of this amendment is to retain the present hour at which polling booths shall close. This has been done in deference to the views of certain religious bodies.
