Senator OGDEN asked the Leader of the Government in the Senate, upon notice -

1.   Whether he has noticed a statement reported in the press as having been made recently by the representatives of the Shipping companies to the effect that the tonnage of Australian passenger ships has decreased during recent years by 80,000 tons?

2.   Whether, in view of this serious decrease, the Government will make inquiries as to the cause and take necessary measures to encourage the restoration of our shipping services?
