Senator FINDLEY (Victoria) . - Do I understand that the Government desires not only that the second reading shall be moved to-day, but also that the second-reading discussion shall take place? Does the Leader of the Government wish the bill to be passed through all its stages before any other business is considered ?

Senator PEARCE - That depends on whether we receive another bill from the other branch of the legislature; but if it is desired that .the formal stages should be postponed until to-morrow, I have no objection to the adoption of that course.

Question resolved in the affirmative.

Bill <(on motion by Senator Crawford) read a first time.
