Senator NEEDHAM (Western Australia) . - Having examined the bill, and having listened carefully to the speech of the Minister (Senator Glasgow) I shall offer no objection to the passage of the measure. I agree that it is desirable to keep a watchful eye on the expenditure of all departments, and that, accordingly, it may be necessary to appoint an inspector to inspect and report upon drilling operations, so that we may be sure that the best results are being obtained from the expenditure of Commonwealth money. The principal act does not include this necessary safeguard.

Question resolved in the affirmative.

Bill read a second time, and reported from committee without amendment. Report adopted.
